Antonio Martin died Thursday at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 95.

As a young boy, the native of Salamonca, Spain, worked for five years as an interpreter in Brazil for the oil companies.

He later moved to San Benito County where he with his father as laborers on local ranches until his father obtained a claim to a mercury mine in New Idria.

Mr. Martin also worked for the Dudley company as part of the team that helped make the globe for the World’s Fair in the 1950s.

In 1946, he bought a ranch where he grew apricots, walnuts and raised cattle.

Mr. Martin was also active in local service and community groups.

He was a member of the local American Legion Post 69. He was a member of the San Benito County Farm Bureau, and he was a member of the Spanish Lodge (U.B.E.) of Hollister.

Mr. Martin enjoyed gardening, repairing and building machinery and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Roseline Martin of Hollister; daughters, Lillian C. Graft of Hollister, Gloria Hall of Salinas; and Victoria B. Felice of San Jose; and sons, Anthony L. Martin and Gilbert John Martin of Hollister; and Peter J. Martin of Green Valley, Ariz.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home with interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, c/o of the mortuary chapel.
