Hawks unable to knock off second-place RLS
Stevenson was too much for Anzar and handed the Hawks their third loss of the Mission Trail Athletic League season Thursday with a 1-0 victory.

“That was the best soccer game I have seen all season,” Anzar coach Deric McLean said. “Neither team was able to comfortably set up their offense due to the incredible full court press by both squads.”

Erin Deleissegues registered 11 saves for Anzar (8-5, 8-3), but it wasn’t enough to keep the Pirates (12-2-1, 11-2) from earning the victory.

Also making big contributions were defender Jen Gross and Alex Brown, who was forced into the sweeper role due to an injury to Christian Tonouye. Rebecca Mockabee also provided a spark by playing four different position.

“We had a calm and confident opening 10 minutes or so where we controlled the game, followed by 70 minutes of intense defense by both squads,” McLean said. “While they get the nod in terms of run of play and possession, this wasn’t a onesided affair. Even the shot count isn’t a good tale of the game.”

Anzar is back in action against King City at 10am Saturday.
