San Juan Bautista – Anzar dominated most of the action Friday at home and earned a 2-0 victory over Pacific Grove.

“We did everything right,” coach Deric McLean said. “We were still kind of snakebit in front of the net, hitting off the crossbar and such. But once it broke, it broke and we did pretty well.”

Alex Brown scored the first goal for the Hawks on what McLean called one of the best goals he’s ever seen.

She took the ball down the side and cut inside her defender, where she was left with no angle at the net so she flicked it with the outside of her foot around the keeper and into the net.

Michelle Chatley also found the back of the net for Anzar, which improved to 9-8 overall and 9-6 in the Mission Trail Athletic League.

The Hawks are back in action Monday when they host Carmel at 3:30pm. Anzar won the first meeting 6-0 behind three goals from Leah Jimenez.
