Some questionable calls went against Anzar and the Hawks were victimized with a 2-0 loss Wednesday at home against York.
Anzar outshot the Falcons 12-3, but had a goal disallowed because of an offsides call and a couple other breaks didn’t go its way in the defeat.
“I understand that it is normally terrible sportsmanship and gamesmanship to blame the referee, and thus it turns my stomach to do so,” coach Deric McLean said. “However, games like today are so unfair to everyone on the field. I just wish that the play of the teams factored a little more heavily into the end results.”
According to McLean, a “blatant handball” to block a shot in the box and an “even more obvious pass back to the goalie” were left uncalled in the loss.
Anzar drops to 8-7 overall and 8-5 in Mission Trail Athletic League play. The Hawks return to action Friday at home against Pacific Grove.
