Carmel – Anzar showed little signs of a team coming off a nearly month-long layoff as the Hawks girls soccer team routed Carmel 6-0 on Wednesday.

The win boosts Anzar to 6-3 overall and 6-1 in Mission Trail Athletic League play.

Leah Jimenez recorded a hat trick, scoring three times in the first half as the Hawks built a 5-0 lead in the first 40 minutes.

“Leah was my player of the match,” Anzar coach Deric McLean said. “Not just because of her hat trick, but because she was so dialed in all game. I don’t know that she made a single error.”

Sara Chatley scored the game’s first goal in the third minute and also had an assist. Michele Chatley added a goal and Cayley Faurot-Daniels scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half.

Goalkeeper Erin Deleissegues recorded eight saves for her sixth shutout.

The Hawks face off against Santa Catalina (9-0, 8-0 MTAL) at 3:30pm Friday with a chance to pull within a half game of first place.

Second-place Robert Louis Stevenson (8-1-1, 7-1 MTAL), which has handed Anzar its only league loss, is also in action Friday as it takes on King City.
