Dear Editor:
This letter is to thank you for the excellent coverage your paper accorded the Apricot Summit this past Monday at Dorothy McNett’s Place.
The Bakers Dozen, a prestigious group of bakers from San Francisco, with some 70 members present, were thrilled to see our town, our facilities and receive the hospitality that was offered by our local growers and residents.
In the midst of the high season for the Blenheim apricots, Elwood Dryden of Sugar Plum Farms, Kay Filice of Filice Farms, Mark and Lee Gibson of Gibson Farms, Patty Gonzales of Gonzales Farms (with her daughter) and Mary Rossi of B&R Farms shared their time with the San Francisco Bay Area people in order to inform and educate the group about the plight of the current crop and the threat from foreign imports.
It is of interest that local residents Elwood Dryden and Norma Martinetti were born and raised here, and have lived here most of their 80-plus years, and have always been in the farming of apricots. In fact, Norma was born in a home in the center of an orchard.
There were generous displays of baked apricot foods and lots of recipes to share with those who attended, and all featured the Blenheim apricots. The numerous samples given to each participant were generous and delicious.
The setting for the meeting was stellar and very much appreciated. The “City Folks” were genuinely amazed at finding such a jewel of an establishment in our town.
The final results of the success of this presentation are that The Bakers Dozen wants to come back next year and do it again!!
Again, thank you for the excellent coverage.
