Dear Editor:

There seems to be considerable articles about the mismanagement, and the corruption in both City and County governments of our fine, beautiful area. We must remember that we are just a small segment of the society suffering from this trend.

Arnold showed up with a broom. Obviously if our uncle the State is remiss, then we would be like our uncle. And, if our father, U.S. of A. is remiss, well the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. There is corporate and government mismanagement, fraud and deceit. The sad thing is that in government, nobody is arrested, nobody goes to jail for this deception or fraud.

Recently, I read an article almost two years old written by Jack Ward. It merits repetition here:

– Medicare/Medicaid fraud is estimated to be tens of billions of dollars every year

– The House Government Reform subcommittee reported that the Department of Housing and Urban Development cannot account for $59 billion dollars

– The Department of Education can’t “find” billions of dollars

– The U. S. Postal Service is $13.5 billion in debt and continues to lose money

– Amtrak has never made money and has cost about $39 billion since it was created, and money continues to be poured down the rat hole

– Social Security is a pyramid scheme that would not be allowed to operate in any city. Despite the politicians claims about a Social Security “Trust Fund,” there is no such fund – just IOUs. Social Security funds are co-mingled with the general revenues. This is a practice that no corporation would be allowed to do.

The government has for some time called for higher standards of accounting and ethics on private sector than it has for itself. Our current local financial crisis calls for complete revamping of our employees.

The County just voted in new supervisors. Change is upon us. We all must look to the right to the left and go forward and ask for complete and accurate accounting standards of the government be upheld. If all of the books are weak, then just what are we balancing when we balance the budget? We are right to demand change locally, in the City, the County, the State . If Arnold needed a broom, then we need a Kirby for the U.S. of A.
