Arthur Martin Pawson died Aug. 21, 2004 in Hollister. He was 85 years old.

He was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He lived in Hollister for the last two years, moving here from Scotts Valley. He lived many places in the U.S. and lived in Thailand and Japan through his work in jet propulsion with General Electric Company. He lived in Lemoore for 20 years and was involved with the Naval Air Station there in the Navy League Committee. His wife, Betty Allis Pawson, preceded him in death in 1991 and was a third generation Allis family resident of Grangeville.

He liked to play golf and was one of the first people to discover Benitoite in San Benito County in the 1930s as he was very involved in gemology. He is a graduate of the University of California-Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

He is survived by his daughter and son and their spouses, Susan and Tom Harlow of Hollister, and Bill and Debby Pawson of Carrollton, Texas; his sister Eleanor Ball of Pinon Hills, Calif.; his grandchildren, Adam and Jean Harlow of Hollister, Sophie and Jonnie Smurthwaite of Elk Grove, Calif., Dave and Denae Harlow of Hollister, and Ben and Krystal Pawson of Columbus, Ohio; and his great grandchildren, Sophie Marie Smurthwaite, Jonnie Smurthwaite, Lexi Harlow, Logan Harlow and Drew Harlow.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Aug. 27 at 1pm at The Lemoore District Cemetery in Lemoore, Calif.

Arrangements are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister.
