21, 2004, after a lengthy illness.
Arthur W. Bettencourt, 78, passed away in Gilroy Sunday, March 21, 2004, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Bettencourt was born in Crows Landing and moved to Gilroy as a 1-year-old baby. He attended Gilroy schools. A few years later he went into the U.S. Army and served for 20 years and traveled to most parts of the world. He returned to Gilroy in 1977 and has been a resident ever since.

He is the son of the late Manuel and Rose Bettencourt. He is survived by his sister Helen Hogan, of Hollister; nephew Tim Hogan, of San Juan Bautista; niece Caroline Brooks, of Morgan Hill; great nephews Patrick and Tom Hogan, of San Juan Bautista; and his great-nieces Alyssa and Katie Brooks, of Morgan Hill. He is also survived by numerous cousins.

Memorial Mass will be April 5, at 8 a.m. at the Mission San Juan Bautista.
