State Attorney General Bill Lockyer sent a letter confirming the deployment of Department of Justice special agents to assist with the Hollister Independence Rally on Friday.

Lockyer sent the letter to Senator Jeff Denham, R-Merced, and Assemblymember Simon Salinas, D-Salinas, assuring them this year will be no different than years’ past concerning DOJ agents working closely with local law enforcement to ensure a peaceful event, according to the letter.

Four teams, which will consist of 20 special agents, along with four special agent supervisors, will be assigned to the rally.

One additional special agent in charge will assist with the management and oversight of the DOJ teams.

The number is increased from last year’s 18 agents who attended.
