Hollister native
Hollister native Audon Casas Sanchez Sr. died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was 74.

Mr. Sanchez was born in Hollister and attended local schools. He was a truck driver for Doudell Trucking and Bell Griffin Trucking in Santa Clara and Gilroy for many years before driving for Lomanto Trucking from 1970 until he retired in 1992. His family said he enjoyed showing his children all the places he went in his driving career whenever they took a trip down the roads he traveled, pointing out the country roads and farms he went to.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos and Teamsters Local 287 of San Jose. He enjoyed working with his hands on home projects and gardening.

He is survived by his children, Pat Pelaiz, Robert Sanchez, David Sanchez and Steve Sanchez, all of Hollister, Audon C. Sanchez Jr. and his wife, Irene, of Tres Pinos, and Christina Lewis and her husband, Bob, of Chico; his former wife, Martina Sanchez of Hollister; his brother, John Casas Sanchez of Hollister; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Casas Sanchez.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home to receive visitors.

Friends are invited to join the family Friday at 10:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
