San Benito County sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspected cocaine and methamphetamine dealer Thursday after a United Narcotics Enforcement Team task force searched a Hollister apartment and found $9,500 worth of drugs, a loaded handgun and “packaging material.”

UNET task force commander Mark Colla said four deputies searched the apartment in the 1000 block of Santa Ana Road, where they found 4.14 grams of methamphetamine and 78.97 grams of cocaine inside – along with a loaded .380 Colt semi-automatic handgun, plastic baggies, a digital scale and $3,869 in cash. Colla termed the suspect as a “mid-level” dealer.

Colla said the apartment was empty when the deputies arrived and the tenant, a 30-year-old Hollister resident, was arrested shortly after at Z Best Products, a fertilizer and compost supply business in Gilroy where the man works.

A supervisor at Z Best Products was not available for comment Friday.

Colla said authorities had been investigating the case for about a month before they received a signed search warrant.

“The operation went easy,” Colla said. “Based on what we seized, he’s a mid-level dealer who was buying ounces of meth and cocaine, then breaking them down into street level sizes.”
