The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office put out an alert for a missing 60-year-old man who had gone on a solo, cross-country bicycle trip pulling a trailer, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

According to a statement released Friday night, Eric Pohley was reported missing a week ago to the sheriff’s office.

According to that sheriff’s office statement:

The reporting party stated Pohley left Auburn, California at the end of February to travel to New York on a solo bike trip pulling a trailer. Pohley planned to visit a friend in San Luis Obispo prior to proceeding to New York. On March 26, Pohley stopped in Modesto to visit a friend. Pohley then left for San Luis Obispo on April 2. Friends talked to Pohley on the phone on April 3 and 4 and Pohley reported he was following the aqueduct system near Patterson and Newman.

The reporting party stated Pohley had been calling/texting his friends every day since he left Auburn approximately three weeks prior but the calls/texting stopped on April 4.

The Sheriff’s Office was informed Pohley has no health conditions, was not depressed or suicidal and sounded in good spirits the last time Pohley spoke to his friend. San Benito County deputies did contact Pohley on April 13 who was on his bike headed towards Hollister on Highway 25. Pohley was in good condition.

On April 25, San Benito County Sheriff’s Detectives contacted the cell phone carrier for Pohley who advised the last time Pohley used his phone was on April 10. The phone has been inactive since April 11. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office put out a state wide alert for Pohley. A search for Pohley has been conducted by the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office on Highway 25 in which Pohley has not been contacted.

Pohley is a white male adult, age 60, 5-foot-11 and 225 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a gray beard. He was riding a bicycle and pulling a trailer. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help in locating Pohley.  Please call (831) 636-4080 if you have any information on the whereabouts of Pohley.
