A slight chill in the evening air, the sight of smoke curling from a chimney, crisp apples in a basket – these are signs of fall in San Benito County.

Another sign of fall are the wonderful baked goods many a local cook puts on the table. As a way of helping welcome fall, and all of the delectable treats the season brings, the Weekend Pinnacle is sponsoring a Fall Baking contest.

Any baked good – fruit pies (apple are a staff personal favorite), quick breads, cookies, cakes or tarts – are eligible for entry.

The contest is open to any San Benito County resident. Entries are being accepted now through Friday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. Contestants are asked to bring entries to the Pinnacle office, located at 350 Sixth St., Suite 102 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Contestants are asked to supply their name and address, as well as the name of the entry and a detailed copy of the recipe with each entry. Contestants are encouraged to enter as many items as they wish.

Entries will be judged by the Weekend Pinnacle editorial board and Pinnacle staff members, and the contestant’s name, along with the winning recipe and a photo of the entry, will be published in the Oct. 26 edition of the Pinnacle. Other recipes and photos will be published as space permits.
