Presentation (San Jose) is favored to win the other pool with Santa Catalina, Monterey and Lynbrook (San Jose) rounding out the foursome.

“One would have to say Presentation is the favorite to win the tournament, but we’d like to think we might be up there,” said Baler head coach Derek Kisling. “We need to play smarter and improve our passing under pressure. We have to work on passing into the 2-meter when they sluff off. Our defense has been pretty solid the whole season.”

Kisling returned three starters from last year’s team – Jenna DeCoite, Stacey Lass and Erin Reed.

Kisling stated the best team he has played thus far was Buchanon of Fresno at the Clovis West Showdown earlier in the season. Buchanon is ranked in the top five of the state. The Balers lost to Buchanon 12-1.

“It was only 6-1 at halftime,” said Kisling. “I was really happy that we had held them to that score. I couldn’t have asked much more than that from the girls.”

Kisling said Krista Maisonnouve has been excelling for the Baler junior varsity team in goal. Maisonnouve will most likely be a junior next year and will carry the mantle after Reed graduates.

-The Baler boys (6-8) are at the St. Francis Invitational this weekend. Tom Agan’s team squares off with Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton at St. Francis in Mountain View at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, then meets Los Gatos at 6:30 p.m. The other venue used in the tournament is Los Altos High. Play continues on Saturday.
