The Hollister High varsity baseball team dropped a critical Tri-County Athletic League contest at Salinas 10-6 Thursday.

Nathan Rowe went the distance and took the loss for the Balers, who were down 8-1 after the first two innings.

Hollister (11-4, 6-2) had a two-run home run from junior Anthony Synegal, his fourth of the season, which leads the team. Steve O’Connell stayed hot with the bat with a double and a single, while Josh Badillo had two doubles for the Balers.

Hollister is at Palma on Tuesday.

Junior varsity:The Baler junior varsity won a wild 13-8 baseball slugfest against Salinas on the Balers’ diamond Thursday. The Balers, 12-1 overall and 7-1 against Tri-County Athletic League competition, scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Chris Etheridge, a transfer from Santa Clara High, belted a two-run homer early in the game. Etheridge had two hits and 5 RBI. Scott Mead went 2-3 with a double, while Breyon Canez was 2-2 with a double as the Balers amassed 12 hits.

Gabe Gaitan made the defensive play of the game when he nailed a Salinas runner at the plate with a great throw from right field as Seth Hudson made the tag.

Brian Rossi went 4.2 innings before being relieved by Kyle Sharp, who ended up with the win.

Freshmen:The Baler frosh rallied from eight runs down in the bottom of the seventh and the game was called because of darkness with the score 9-9.
