San Benito Tennis Misses Opportuniy
The San Benito girls’ tennis team came close to registering a home win over Watsonville on Wednesday, but fell just short with its 4-3 loss.
The Lady ‘Balers received straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, as well as at No. 2 doubles, but dropped two other matches in third-set tiebreakers to lose to the Wildcatz at Ridgemark.
No. 1 singles player Amanda Marshall won 6-1, 7-6, and No. 4 Abby Woods prevailed 6-2, 6-3. San Benito’s No. 2 doubles team of Elena Fata and Rachel Maheu continued its strong start to the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
But it wasn’t enough on this day as the ‘Balers dropped close matches at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles to fall to 2-3 on the year.
“We had a couple of tight matches that could’ve gone either way,” San Benito head coach Ed Cecena said. “They seemed to tough it out more than we did, so they came out with the win.”
The ‘Balers return to the court on Sep. 12 when they open their Tri-County Athletic League season by hosting Notre Dame at 3:30pm.
