The Hollister High boys golf team suffered its first Tri-County Athletic League loss when it placed third behind Palma and Live Oak at Salinas Golf & Country Club Tuesday.
The Balers shot a 4-player total of 160. The Chieftains shot 152 and the Acorns 156.
Ian Hudson led all Balers with a 37. Four Baler players shot 41 – John Dempsey, Zach Zgragen, Matt Lopez and Matt Vigilante. Chris Zubiaga shot a 42.
That gives the Balers five points for the season. Mitch Thomas’ club enters a big week starting Monday in a T-CAL match with Live Oak and Gilroy. The Acorns host at Gilroy Golf Course on Hecker Pass.
“We need to get turned around,” said Thomas. “We’re in kind of the same lull we were in last year.”
The Balers host the six-team T-CAL tourney at Ridgemark next Thursday.
Boys tennis
The Balers were dropped by Salinas 5-2 Tuesday at Ridgemark Tennis Center. Winning for the Balers was the No. 2 doubles team of Mario Zaragoza and Ryan Watson, who won 6-3, 6-2. The other Baler win was a forfeit.
The No. 1 doubles team of Pablo Andrade and Isidro Trujillo fought hard but fell 6-7, 4-6. Glen Morris lost to defending Monterey Bay League champ John Pettit 1-6, 0-6.
The Balers have a chance to win at North Salinas today.
