It doesn’t appear that any Tri-County Athletic League team can knock off either the Hollister High boys or girls swim teams.

The Balers won by near identical scores last Friday at home, topping challenger Live Oak 116-68 in the varsity boys and 111-74 in the varsity girls in chilly, rainy weather.

The Baler junior varsity was a victor 57-35, while the JV girls were on the short end of a 103-74 score.

With just two league dual meets left, the Baler boys seemed poised to win the first league swim title in school history. Gilroy visits on Wednesday and then it’s a layoff until a road meet at Salinas on April 30.

The girls have four more dual meets, but none of the teams expects to give the Balers much competition – Gilroy Wednesday, home vs. Notre Dame April 25, at Salinas April 30 and home vs. North Salinas May 2. Only Salinas could test the Balers of the four teams remaining.

If the status quo holds, Live Oak is basically second in both girls and boys and must defeat the Balers by more than eight points at the T-CAL meet May 7 (diving) and 9 (swim) at Live Oak.

“We should win if we stay healthy,” said Baler girls coach Derek Kisling.

Baler boys coach Joel Sims echoed Kisling’s comments.

Due to the inclement weather Friday, there weren’t many stellar times. The best may have been the quartet of Christian Smith, Nik Barr, Greg Wilson and Greg Henneman in the 200-free relay, which took first in 1:37.1. The same four swam a 3:39.45 in the 400-free relay. Barr fared well in the 100-back clocking 1:04.9 for first place. Smith had a nice time in the 100-fly, with a swift 1:02.00 for first place.

In the girls, Erin Reed doubled in the 50-free and 100-fly, while Britta Nordstrom doubled in the 200-free and 100-free. Stacey Lass swam a 1:05.90 in the 100-back after clocking a 5:34.77 in the 500-free.
