The San Benito volleyball team defeated North Salinas in Salinas Wednesday night 25-19, 25-19, 25-18.

The Balers are now 18-16 overall and 5-3 in league.

“We made some stupid mistakes early in games one and two, but we were able to overcome them to win,” said Baler coach Chuck Schallhorn.

It took a while for the Balers to get warmed up with the cold air blowing in from outside.

“The kids were literally shivering on the bench, and playing did not necessarily get them warm enough,” Schallhorn said. “Once they warmed up, they did fine. I was able to play everyone. They all got valuable experience.”

Kathleen McCullough led the Balers with 18 assists, and Amy Baxter had four aces and 12 digs. Melissa Moore had 13 kills and 11 digs. Mallorie Willson and Leslie Schipper had seven kills each. Schipper also had five aces and 11 digs.

Jamie Temperino and Danielle Andrewson each had four kills.

JV note: The JV team won in three game to improve to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in league. The team was led by Caitlin Halla, Chelsea Fowles and Ari Romero

Frosh note: The frosh team defeated North Salinas 25-22, 21-25, 15-13. Alyssa Ashford had an outstanding match with seven kills and five aces. Samantha Patton and Stacie Mead each added three kills and an ace.
