It was a split decision last week for the Hollister High boys volleyball team, which spent the week on the road.

The Balers defeated Salinas last Wednesday 15-5, 15-9, 13-15 and 15-11. They lost a five-set match at Monterey on Friday 14-16, 17-15, 15-10, 6-15, 10-15 to make their record 9-12 overall and 2-6 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

“Monterey concentrated on shutting Brannon Wynn down in the middle,” said Baler head coach Henke Mao. “So I told our setter to look for Travis Fowles because Travis was hitting well. Then they started to take away Travis.”

Fowles had a team-high nine kills, while Tomas Rebecchi added eight kills.

Against the Cowboys, Wynn had 14 kills, Rebecchi seven kills and Edward Kauffman five kills.

Mao had praise for Jeff Hawks, his sophomore setter.

“Jeff’s coming along real well in running the offense,” said Mao. “He’s stuck with it and is playing well for a first-year varsity performer. Nathan Thome is hitting well right now, also.”

The Balers are at Gilroy Wednesday before taking Easter break. Hollister is home again April 25 vs. Seaside.
