Castroville – The San Benito boys basketball team was outscored in each of the four quarters of a 45-33 loss to host North Monterey County on Thursday in the semifinals of the Condor Christmas Classic.

The Condors built a 12-9 lead after the first quarter and had a 26-20 halftime advantage.

The loss dropped the Haybalers into the tournament’s third place game. They played Friday against Salinas, but the results were not available at presstime.

In the loss to NMC, San Benito was again led by leading scorer Todd Janisch.

The senior forward who is averaging more than 16 points per game had a team-high 12. Sterling Wilson chipped in with seven points.

The Condors, who the ‘Balers beat 51-47 when they teams squared off in the Independence Fukishima Invitational, were led by Rueben Damasco’s 13 points.

Girls Basketball

Antioch – San Benito opened play in the West Coast Jamboree’s Pearl Division with a 63-39 loss to College Park late Thursday at Dallas Ranch Middle School.

The ‘Balers continued play in the tournament by facing Tennyson on Friday in the second round. The results were not available at presstime.
