The Baler girls soccer team bounced back from an earlier loss in the week to defeat Monta Vista Christian 4-1 on Thursday.

Rose Vandenberg scored an unassisted goal in the first two minutes, dribbling through several Mustang players and placing the ball in the back of the net.

The Mustangs tied it up with a huge shot from about 25 yards out that just was out of the reach of the leaping Mary Von Urff in the 13th minute.

In the 26th minute, Vandenberg was taken down from behind in the Mustang box and scored on the penalty kick. San Benito was up 2-1 at the half.

The Balers came back even stronger in the second half and dominated play. In the 55th minute, Jenny Maheu scored goal number three for the Balers off a pass from Vandenberg.

And in the 67th minute, Vandenberg got her hat trick with another unasssisted goal, dribbling past a couple of the Mustang defenders and skillfully placing the ball in the corner of the net.

The Balers (3-3-1) host Soquel at 3:30 p.m. today. Next week the Balers host Seaside in a rescheduled game on Wednesday and then travel to face a very talented Pioneer team on Dec. 19.
