Amanda Boyd, left, and Mallorie Wilson block a Mustang hit at the net during the game Monday night.

The Haybaler volleyball team defeated the Mustangs in three
games at Gilroy High on Monday night. The Balers won 25-11, 25-22,
28-26.

We played well overall with very few mistakes in the first
game,

said Baler coach Chuck Schallhorn.

Gilroy stayed tough and kept digging nearly every attack we
threw their way. They are one heck of a scrappy team, and they kept
us on our toes. Our attack wore them down, and they just could not
keep up.

Leslie Schipper (10 kills, 3 aces, 9 digs) and Melissa Moore (10 kills, 5 aces, 9 digs) led the Balers offensively.

Jamie Temperino had two solo blocks and two assist blocks, and Mallorie Wilson had eight kills and a pair of solo blocks.

Kathleen McCullough (13 assists, 4 kills, 3 aces) and Stephanie Mauro (12 (assists, 2 aces) did a good job of setting up the hitters.

The Balers are now 17-16 and 4-3 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

Schallhorn ran out of subs in the third game and was forced to have players play unfamiliar positions.

“Fortunately, the serving of Melissa Moore, Amy Baxter and Leslie Schipper was able to keep it from going to four games,” Schallhorn said. “I was able to play everyone and get them some quality court time during key points in the match.”

Frosh/JV note: The freshman team won in three games, while the JV team won in two games.

The frosh team won 25-18, 10-25, 15-13. Samantha Patton and Stacie Mead lead the serving with several aces. Both players played well all around. Heather Casillas, coming back from an ankle injury, also had a good game.
