Hollister High senior Eric Diaz Jr. has been nominated as the San Benito County Male Athlete of the Month for March on local sports Web site mbaypreps.com.
Diaz, the leading hitter in the Tri-County Athletic League, fanned 13 batters in a 2-1 victory by the Balers over Salinas on March 31. Though Diaz didn’t pick up the win, he knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a single.
Hollister High senior Alyssa Baker and sophomore Dani Hernandez teamed up for a 2-1 win over North Salinas and star pitcher Monica Abbott March 25. The two pitchers combined for a 9-3 record in March as the Balers rose to No. 6 in the Central Coast Section.
Voting for top athletes for March continues through midnight May 2. The winner(s) receive a $100 certificate to Sports Zone in Salinas.
