Bonner and Miller came through with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 victory which gave the Baler girls tennis contingent a 4-3 win over the Acorns.

“They really put it together on that third set,” said Baler head coach Ed Cecena of Miller and Bonner. “It was a great win for us.”

The Balers are now 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the Tri-County Athetic League.

It was an unusual way to win for the Balers, who lost No. 1 through No. 3 singles. Falling were Jill Merrigan (1-6, 0-6), Vanessa Martinez (3-6, 1-6) and Tiffany Davies (1-6, 6-7).

Winning at No. 4 singles was Mary Von Urff, who defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles team of Cathry Villarico and Jamie Huston were victorious 6-1, 6-3, while the No. 3 doubles team of Sheila and Sheryl Overman won by forfeit.

The Balers host Gilroy on Thursday at the Ridgemark Tennis Center.

“Gilroy’s going to be tough,” said Cecena. “They and Notre Dame are the two favorites to win league.”
