Just three days after squandering a two-games-to-none lead against host Soquel, the San Benito boys’ volleyball team found itself in a somewhat similar position on Tuesday night in Seaside, but delivered a much different outcome.

After falling in five games to Soquel on Saturday, the Baler boys rebounded Tuesday and earned a five-set (25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13) victory over Seaside in Tri-County Athletic League action.

Tuesday’s win was much more back-and-forth than Saturday’s contest, which saw San Benito lose three straight sets.

“Saturday was hard,” San Benito head coach Erica Richardson said. “They were pretty bummed. But I definitely think it had an impact.”

Against Seaside, the Balers won Game 1 and Game 3 by a 25-22 margin, then held on to a 15-13 victory in the fifth and deciding set to pick up the match win.

“It was nice that we at least pulled out the win in the end,” Richardson said. “Seaside is a good team. They work hard. They hustle. They’re fast. It wasn’t an easy win.”

Nevertheless, the victory does improve the Balers to 5-1 in the TCAL, 9-4 overall, while they also pace keep pace with undefeated Gilroy atop the TCAL Valley Division standings.
