Salinas – The San Benito girls golf team finished in third place in the Tri-County Athletic League Finals at the Salinas Country Club Monday. The Haybalers finished just one point behind Santa Catalina in the league standings.

“We did the best we could with our talent,” said coach Mark Tinder. “We were consistent and we worked as a team, but we were all shooting guards this year and didn’t have that seven-foot center.”

RLS freshman Mina Harigae led all golfers with a 69. Golfers needed a 97 to qualify for CCS. No Balers made the cut, and only 10 from the league were selected.

For San Benito, senior Corryn Pacheco and freshman Marissa Gutierrez led the way with a 101.

Junior Erica Bardo had a 103, and senior Ashly Cullumber shot a 104. Seniors Rachelle Barrientos had a 110, and Megan Smith had a 115.

“Everyone looks to win, but if we maximize our talents, that is all you can ask,” Tinder said. “You can’t worry about what everyone else is shooting. We just have to worry about ourselves. We’ve had the most consistent (TCAL) record over the last four years.”
