Live Oak will be celebrating its homecoming by lighting off fireworks. But the Balers (3-1-1) hope they will be the ones with the big game fireworks.

After all, they are coming into the game on a three-game winning streak, and Morgan Hill is coming in on a 19-game winless streak.

But Baler coach Chris Cameron doesn’t want to treat anyone lightly especially the Acorns, who will be coming out hungry.

“We are going to take the game seriously as if they were coming in undefeated,” Cameron said. “We just have to come out strong from the get-go and play strong from start to finish.”

The Balers and the Acorns went opposite ways against their mutual opponent this year. Seaside had the home field advantage both times.

Seaside capitalized on numerous Live Oak errors to win 43-12, but the Baler defense shut down the Spartans the following week in a 14-0 win.

Although the Acorns are 0-4-1 coming into the game, their last two games have been close. Live Oak lost after North County rallied late and then had to be satisfied with a tie as Alisal moved down the field in the final seconds. San Benito is coming off of a 34-6 win against Monterey.

“They are a talented football team with a veteran offensive line,” said Live Oak coach Glen Webb. “They run a variety of options and do several things well. It will be a challenge.”

The Balers, who are ranked No. 12 in the Central Coast Section, are coming into the game fairly health, although they will be without injured tackle Oscar Correa.

“We had a good practice this week,” Cameron said. “We had no one special emphasis. We just tried to work on the problematic areas we saw. We are getting better each week.”
