Barbara E. Lorentzen, age 81, a former resident of San Benito
County, died in Austin Texas on Monday, January 17, 2005.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1923 in Hollister California.
Barbara E. Lorentzen, age 81, a former resident of San Benito County, died in Austin Texas on Monday, January 17, 2005.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1923 in Hollister California. She attended San Juan Elementary School and San Benito High School where she met her beloved husband Kay W. Lorentzen. Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Alice (Rodriguez) Nunes. Her only brother, Leland Nunes, also preceded her in death.
In 1943 Barbara was united in marriage to Kay W. Lorentzen. During his military career, they lived all over the United States and in Europe. Following Kay’s retirement, they returned to San Benito County and lived in Ridgemark. Barbara was an accomplished pianist, and she was active in local organizations, the Ridgemark Golf Club and local bridge clubs.
Barbara suffered a stroke in 2001 and relocated to Austin Texas in 2002 to live near her niece, Cynthia Colbert.
She is survived by her nieces, Cynthia Colbert and husband David of Round Rock Texas, Cecilia Bravo and husband Jesse of San Juan Bautista; her nephew, Leland Nunes and wife Karen of Sacramento; one great-niece; and 7 great-nephews.
A Catholic mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10am, Friday, March 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (corner of 5th and College Streets) in Hollister. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for this memorial service.

The family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to all of her loving friends who supported Barbara during the many years she resided in San Benito County and especially the past three years during her illness.
