Coach Allen Barker mixed up the Hollister High lineup in the final regular-season boys tennis match of the year and it worked for a 5-2 victory at North Salinas Thursday.

The Balers, who beat the Vikings three times for their only Tri-County Athletic League wins, had a 6-0, 6-1 breezer at No. 1 singles from Glen Morris.

Pablo Andrade, playing singles for the first time, won at No. 2 singles 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).

“It was one of those classic three-set matches,” said Barker.

Cameron Barker fell at No. 3 singles 2-6, 2-6, while Perry Marks took his No. 4 singles match 6-2, 7-5.

Isidro Trujillo and Michael Blake teamed up at No. 1 doubles to beat their Viking opponents 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 7-6 (7-5). Joe Ribero/Larry Branquinho lost at No. 2 doubles 0-6, 3-6, while Ryan Watson/Ryan Andrade won at No. 3 doubles 6-2, 6-2.

Barker announced that he most likely won’t return next year and that the program would be taken over by Hollister girls coach Ed Cecena, a former Baler tennis player.

The Balers are in the T-CALs starting this morning at 9 a.m. and continuing on Saturday at 1 p.m.
