The Balers (19-8), who lost their regular-season finale against Oak Grove on Friday, have not faced Santa Teresa this season, which is also coming off a loss — 9-2 to Westmont.
Santa Teresa, in fact, has lost seven of its last nine games.
A win for the Balers on Wednesday would advance them to Saturday’s quarterfinal round, where they would square off against either No. 4 Wilcox (25-7) or No. 13 Leland (13-14).
In the other two first-round matchups, No. 9 Oak Grove (20-6) and No. 8 Salinas (17-9-1) will meet, while No. 1 St. Francis (25-5) will face off against No. 16 Carlmont (18-8).
The CCS Division I Championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 28.
Meanwhile, on the opposite side of San Benito’s bracket, No. 11 Serra (17-11) will face No. 6 Homestead (17-13-1); No. 3 Palo Alto (24-9) will square off against No. 14 Monta Vista (15-11); No. 7 Valley Christian (15-13) will meet No. 10 Santa Clara (16-11); and No. 2 Mitty (24-5-1) will match up with No. 15 Milpitas (17-7-1).
Palma, which finished runner-up in the TCAL, earned the No. 1 seed in the Division III bracket, while Gilroy, which finished fourth in the TCAL, was awarded the No. 8 seed in the Division II bracket.
