After falling in the first game of the Valley Christian Tournament on Monday, the San Benito baseball team rallied for two consecutive wins to improve to 13-3 overall.

San Benito earned its first victory of the tournament with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Los Gatos. The Wildcats scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning. The game remained 1-0 until the fourth inning when the Balers finally tied it up. San Benito’s game-winning run came in sixth inning.

After the first inning, Conner Menez was dominant on the mound for the Balers, limiting Los Gatos to only three hits in seven innings. Menez struck out six batters in the victory.

Josh George and Jacob Tonascia each finished with two hits and a double. Tonascia scored the Balers only two runs. Junior Rodriguez (1-for-2) and Dylan Yamasaki (1-for-3) knocked in the Balers’ runs.

The Balers closed the tournament with another strong pitching performance, this time coming from Justin Goodwin, Robert Soto and Jacob Trujillo. The three combined to allow only two hits from Crater in a 4-0 win.

San Benito scored all four runs in the first three innings. The Balers finished with only four hits, but they took advantage of three errors from the Comets.

Cody Freitas finished the contest 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Josh George added another RBI, going 1-2 with a run scored.

The Balers, who sit in first place in the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division, travel to Palma at 4 p.m. April 11.
