Bryan Granger tossed a no-hitter, Darin Gillies added five RBI behind a pair of home runs, and the San Benito Haybalers defeated Alisal 5-0 on Friday and 7-0 on Saturday to improve to 9-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

Granger’s no-no on Saturday included 10 strikeouts, two walks and one hit-batsmen, and San Benito manager Michael Luna said the Baler junior only got stronger as the game progressed.

Case in point, seven of Granger’s 10 strikeouts in the game happened in the last three innings.

“His velocity increased and his fastball was moving on Saturday,” Luna said. “It had some extra zip.”

Only one Alisal base runner reached second base, as Granger prevented the Trojans from ever scoring in the contest.

Meanwhile, San Benito scored four times in the first inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Isaak Ramos, who belted the first pitch he saw to put the Balers up 3-0.

Later in the inning, Gillies hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Ramos from third base.

Gillies added to a strong two-game slate in the third inning as well, but not before teammate Ricky Garcia could help out. After Ramos walked with one out, Garcia connected on an RBI double — a line drive off the left-center field fence. Gillies then followed with a two-run homer over the left-center field fence.

Gillies (3IP, 7K, 1BB, 1H) also tossed three innings and struck out seven during Friday’s win over Alisal — a 5-0 victory for the Balers that saw Trevor Fabing lead off the game with a solo home run.

In the second, following a Garcia single to right field, Gillies belted his first home run of the weekend with a two-run shot to left field.

Pitchers Dustin Rovella (3IP, 4K, 0BB, 2H) and Trevor Fabing (1IP, 3K) closed out the game in relief for San Benito, which is now 13-4 overall.

The Balers will open a two-game series against Gilroy this week. On Tuesday, San Benito will host the Mustangs at 4 p.m. The two teams will meet up again in Gilroy on Friday as well.

Gillies is expected to start for the Balers on Tuesday.
