The boys in blue found little competition at the District 9 level, as they defeated all four of their opponents by a 60-1 margin. The run plated by Gonzales in the championship game was the only run surrendered by Hollister National in the D-9 tournament.

Butler made sure it was the only one, though. The 12-year-old hurler tossed three innings and allowed one run on five hits, striking out eight batters. Drew Williams relieved the starter and threw one inning, striking out three.

In fact, of the 12 outs Gonzales had to its name Tuesday, 11 went down via the strikeout.

Butler also scored three runs for Hollister National and Williams went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

The big bats were held by Canela and Tomasini, though, each of whom went 2-for-2 and scored two runs apiece. Canela, who homered in the first, also knocked in five runs, while Tomasini had three RBI.

Isaiah Bueno, Garrett Bourdet and Williams each added a double.

Gonzales actually went up in the first inning 1-0 before Hollister responded with 14 unanswered runs, grabbing the lead for good in the home half of the inning on Canela’s two-run homer.

In the bottom of the third, National scored eight times behind Ryan Quinby’s RBI single, Canela’s 2-RBI single, Tomasini’s 2-RBI single and Bourdet’s 2-RBI double.

Hollister National, representing District 9, will now square off against the District 59 representative in the Section 5 All-Star Tournament on Saturday, hosted by Pajaro Valley Little League.

First pitch is 5 p.m. at Ruso Field.
