San Benito's Josh George safely steals third as Gilroy's Jaylan Gallardo misses the out during their away game Thursday.

The San Benito baseball team opened the 2013 season Thursday with a 3-0 victory over nationally-ranked Valley Christian.

Robert Soto and Josh George each finished with a hit.

On the mound, the Balers recieved a strong start from Greg Steinbeck, who went five and a third innings. He allowed only two hits, while striking out four batters. Jacob Trujillo earned the victory by pitching in relief.

The Balers host Gilroy at 6 p.m. Monday at the Babe Ruth field at Veterans Memorial Park.
