San Benito's Cody Freitas (7) makes a catch that is too high for Michael Breen (22) during their game Friday against Palma.

For the Balers, pitching wins championships, and during Saturday’s second round Central Coast Section game against Archbishop Mitty, they got a gem from Robert Soto.

The senior lefty threw five dominant innings, limiting Mitty to two hits, as San Benito won 5-0 to advance to the semifinals for the third consecutive year.

San Benito blew the game open in the third inning, thanks to a two-run single by Cody Freitas, who finished the game 3-for-4. Dylan Yamasaki and Dylan Ito each finished with one RBI in the victory.

Mitty never advanced past second base during the game.

“Rob was great today,” SBHS head coach Billy Aviles said. “Pitching, good defense and timely hitting wins championships. We got that today.”

The Balers will play No. 2 seed Serra at 4 p.m. Wednesday at San Jose Muni.
