After beating Stevenson 57-37 on Thursday, the boys basketball team will aim for its second tournament championship of the season Friday in the Condor Christmas Classic.
The Balers will face defending Tri-County Athletic League champion Salinas in a matchup of two teams with only two losses.
In Thursday’s victory, the Balers limited Stevenson to 18 points through three quarters of play. Jordan Belton scored a game-high 17 points in the Baler victory.
Isaiah Acfalle added 9 points and Jacob Tonascia and Hyram Miskin added 8 points a piece.
But it was the defense that led the way for the Balers.
“We are playing really good defensively,” head coach David Kaplansky said.
Tonascia and Brian Bacerra were defensive stalwarts, limiting Stevenson’s chances, Kaplansky said.
“They did a really good job against some good players,” he said.
The Balers aim for the tournament title against Salinas at 5 p.m. at North Monterey High.

Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team lost its third game in a row Thursday, falling to Santa Teresa 44-37 in the second game of the Del Mar tournament.
The loss sends the Balers to the tournament finale against Abraham Lincoln at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Balers will aim for their first victory of the three-game tournament.
