Betty Lynn Sans unexpectedly passed away April 6th, 2011, at her home in Paicines, CA. Betty was born February 12th, 1945, in Barstow, CA. Daughter of Donald Alexander MacKinnon and Barbara Elizabeth Sheehan, she is survived by her husband Les Sans, daughter, Shelly Franklin, step-children Sami Jo Johnsen, Todd Sans, Jerilynn Sans and grandchildren, Sierra Jo, Buddy and Brody Sans and Rory and Jo Ellen Johnsen, and brother Greg MacKinnon.
Raised in San Francisco and Mendocino, she was an avid horse-woman, teacher, mentor and friend to generations of cowboys and cowgirls. She was a lifelong member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association, a member of the National Reined Cowhorse Association, National Barrel Horse Association, American Barrel Race Association, and California Gymkhana Association. She was also an original founding member of California Women for Agriculture, San Benito County Chapter.
Betty touched the heart of anyone who was lucky enough to call her wife, mother, daughter, sister or friend; the impact she left on this world and the legacy of her life will always be remembered. Saddle-up BL, we’ll all ride side-by-side with you again soon!
Memorial service Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 10:00 A.M., Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister, followed by a celebration of Betty’s life at The 19th Hole, Tres Pinos.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Quarter Horse Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 32111, Amarillo, Texas 79120.
