Betty N. Laizure passed away at her home Tuesday evening from Multiple Sclerosis. She was the wife of 56 years to Jim Laizure; mother of Lynn Noto (Benjie) and their children, Melissa & Kevin; Robert Laizure and his son, Ben; Karen Holvick and her children, Andrew and Brenda and Brenda’s children, Isabel & Accalia; Chuck Laizure (Julie) and their son, Chris; long-time companion and care-giver Beverly Rivera and God- daughter Louisa Lopez; and sister of Dick Soares (Barbara).

Betty was born and raised in Madera and active in the theatre and dance. She met and married her husband, Jim, in 1951, then moved to Gilroy in 1960. She immediately became involved in the community and various St. Mary’s Church & School organizations. Diagnosed with MS in 1968, she devoted herself to research and supporting others who had the disease. She will be remembered for her unbelievably strong courage, faith, willingness to give and her brilliant smile no matter what.

Visitation will begin Monday, September 10, 2007 – 12:30 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Mass will be at St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy at 2:00 P.M. The family would appreciate donations to MS Society or St. Joseph’s Family Center.
