playoffs at Watsonville High.
The Hollister Black Sox adult baseball season came to a close Sunday with a 7-4 loss to the Diamondbacks in the NABA first round playoffs at Watsonville High.
The No. 1 Diamondbacks jumped out early with four runs in the first inning as the No. 8 Black Sox, the three-time defending champions, had trouble fielding in the muddy conditions.
But after the rocky first inning, the Black Sox defense held the Diamondbacks scoreless until the fifth inning. The Sox turned three double plays in the game including a 6-4-5 with third baseman Kevin Hatchett putting on the tag at third
The Sox got on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Rob Picha led off the inning with a single and scored on a hit after an overthrow at third base. An RBI groundout scored the second run.
The Black Sox drew within 4-3 in the fifth inning after Nick Bakich’s leadoff single and RBI by Leroy Dozel.
The Diamondbacks answered with a run in their half of the inning then hit a two-run home in the seventh inning with two out. The Black Sox scored their final run in the eighth inning.
Andrew Barragan, who took the loss, pitched the first four innings, and Kalev Betencourt pitched the final four.
