Former Baler and current Bentley senior Morgan O’Laughlin hit .462 with seven kills against Caldwell College last weekend at the University of New Haven Invitational, but the Falcons dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Caldwell College and the University of Bridgeport.

O’Laughlin, a 2006 graduate of San Benito High, has produced 1.4 kills per set over her career.

Hawaii’s Leonard out with knee injury

Former Baler and current University of Hawaii junior Brett Leonard, who was expected to be named the starting center for the Warriors football team this season, will instead miss the first three games of the regular season with a knee injury.

The 2006 graduate of San Benito High suffered the knee injury during a late-August practice. He was initially expected to be ready for last Thursday’s season opener against USC — a 49-36 victory for the Trojans — but the former Baler is instead scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery.

Hole-in-one at Ridgemark

Barbara Lee recently shot a hole-in-one with a 9-wood on the uphill, 115-yard hole No. 8 on the Diablo Course at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.

Frys.com Open partners with Sports Fan Express

Frys.com Open Tournament Director Ian Knight announced Tuesday that Sports Fan Express will provide roundtrip motorcoach transportation and ticket packages from Fry’s Electronics store locations to the 2010 Frys.com Open. The first-ever PGA Tour event to be held in Silicon Valley is scheduled to be played at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Oct. 13-17.

Sports Fan Express will sell ticket packages starting at $59 that include a tournament daily ticket, transportation, a $10 cash card from Golfsmith as well as a complimentary beverage at the Michelob Ultra Tailgate Party. The tailgate party will be open to the general public Thursday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 17, the tailgate party will be hosted by San Francisco 49er standout Ronnie Lott and other sports celebrities.

“We are pleased to offer fans the ease of traveling by a luxury motorcoach to our tournament,” Knight said. “Thanks to a ride home, fans can now stay after the golf tournament and enjoy music and what we hope to be the largest tailgate party in Northern California.”

The motorcoaches will line up at seven Fry’s Electronics store locations including Sacramento, Concord, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Campbell, Fremont and San Jose. The coaches are scheduled to arrive at the course by 9 a.m. The Express Package allows the fans to return home after golf. The Tailgate Party package will allow fans to participate in the post-tournament celebration before departing back to the Fry’s Electronics locations.

Pacific Grove triathlon set for Sept. 11-12

Fifteen hundred competitors will take to the waters and roads of Pacific Grove with a swim-bike-run competition at the 16th annual Triathlon at Pacific Grove, slated for Sept. 11 and 12.

The Olympic Distance triathlon begins at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, and the Sprint Distance triathlon will be held at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12.

5K and 10K runs have been added this year and a “Fly the Flag” commemoration honoring the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, will be held. Streets along PG’s oceanfront will be closed most of Saturday as well as Sunday morning.

Memorial golf tourney slated for September at Bolado Park

The Gerald Rawn Memorial Golf Tournament, awarding annual scholarships to the Boys Scouts of Troop 436 since 1999, will be held Sept. 25 at the Bolado Park Golf Course, located at 777 Airline Highway in Tres Pinos.

Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies scheduled for 11:30 a.m. A shotgun start will happen at noon, with a Court of Honor and steak dinner slated for the 19th Hole at 5 p.m.

Cost is $85 per player, which includes golf, a cart, a goodie bag, lunch, a banquet and awards.

Awards will be given out to the top three teams, closest to the pin, longest drive and any hole-in-ones, which will be awarded a Harley Davidson. Raffle items include a round of golf for a foursome, a 42-inch LCD television, a wheel barrel of beer, wine gift baskets, a Cleveland wedge, golf GPS and much more.

YMCA announces sign-ups for coed soccer

The YMCA of San Benito County recently announced sign-ups for two coed soccer leagues, each of which will kick-off in September.

One league will be for boys and girls ages 2 and a half to 5 years old. The season will last six weeks and will run from Sept. 11 to Oct. 16, with players aged 2 and a half to 3 and a half meeting Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., and players aged 4 to 5 years old meeting Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Cost is $45.

Another soccer league will be geared toward boys and girls in K through fifth grade. The season will last from Sept. 25 through Nov. 20, with first practices slated for the week of Sept. 13. Most games will be held on Saturdays.

Cost is $75.

The program’s vision is to encourage a love for the game and companionship between players through the teaching of skills, development of positive attitudes about fair play, teamwork and reinforcement of the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Ridgemark to host junior tournament Sept. 11

The Ridgemark Golf and Country Club has announced its Junior Golf Club tournament schedule for 2010, with its final tournament set for Sept. 11 at 3 p.m.

No sign-up is necessary for the tournament. Interested golfers can sign up on the day of the event, at least 15 minutes prior to tee time, and choose between four-, six- or nine-hole tournaments.
