HOLLISTER
Frys.com Open tournament chairperson Kathy Kolder announced last week that Robert Trent Jones, Jr., has been named 2010 tournament honoree of the Frys.com Open, scheduled to be played at CordeValle, located in San Martin, on Oct. 13-17.
“The tournament couldn’t be happier with our selection for the 2010 honoree,” Kolder said. “Jones Jr. designed the wonderful CordeValle golf course in 1999 and it is fitting that we announce it this week during the U.S. Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay another one of Jones Jr.’s creations.”
CordeValle was recently named the No. 8-ranked golf course in California, according to Golf Magazine’s “Best Public Golf Courses in California 2010.”
Jones Jr., will be present during the first half of the week for a number of different activities. He will be introduced to the participants of the Official Pro-Am during the Tuesday night pairings party at Clos LaChance Winery. He will also visit with the Tour professionals and the amateur players on Wednesday during their pro-am rounds. It is at that time when spectators will have an opportunity to say hello to the legendary golf course designer. Jones Jr. will also spend time at the Official Pro-Am awards luncheon on Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Robert Trent Jones II (RTJ II) is one of the world’s most prominent golf architects, having created more than 270 courses in more than 40 countries on six continents.
