PROJECT LINUS SAN BENITO CHAPTER: Will be collecting handmade blankets, yarn, yardage goods and monetary donations 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at San Benito Land Title on 260 Tres Pinos Road. THE WIZARD OF OZ: The Spring Grove School of Theatre Arts will perform “The Wizard of Oz” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 22 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23 at 500 Spring Grove Road in Hollister. Tickets cost $5. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.

THEATER PRODUCTION: The Mount Madonna School will present their production of Ramayan at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 11-12 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday June 13 at the CSU Monterey Bay World Theater. Tickets cost $25 and are available by calling 831-582-4580.

ATTENTION ALL QUILTERS: The Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the Assembly of God Church on 301 The Alameda Suite G in San Juan Bautista. The program will be a workshop on paper piecing. Kits will be available for $1.

HENRY COE STATE PARK: The park has the following activities scheduled this weekend:

Join Libby Vincent for a “hiker’s choice” hike of 8 miles or less at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. The group will choose the destination and difficulty of the hike.  Bring water and a lunch. An evening program on Mountain Lions by Rick Hopkins will feature slides of the beautiful yet controversial animals and he’ll discuss mountain lion studies in the area at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 22.

Wildflower Walks will be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 23.

SEWER IMPROVEMENTS: The city of Hollister and Harris & Associates will host a Public Meeting to discuss CEQA Scoping for the Domestic Wastewater System Improvements from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Room 204-A. ROAD OPENINGS: San Benito County Public Works Department will open the seasonal low-water crossing into the San Benito Historical Park at Tres Pinos Creek at 4 p.m. May 17. The department will also open the low-water crossing at Nash Road and San Benito River at 4 p.m. May 19. Both roads will remain open until October of 2004. For more information call 831-636-4170.

HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE: The San Benito County Planning Department will be conducting a series of workshops for the 2001-2008 Housing Element Update. The purpose of the workshops is to receive community input on unmet housing needs in the county. A general workshop on unmet housing needs and current proposed programs will occur at 7 p.m. May 17 in the San Benito County Board Chambers on 481 Fourth Street. A workshop on elderly and disabled housing will occur at 1 p.m. May 18 in the Hollister Community Center on 300 West St. A farmworker workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on May 18 in the county board chambers and at 6 p.m. May 19 in Aromas Grammar School. BYGONE YEARS MEMBERS: Attention all San Benito County Bygone Years Members: Submission deadline for the June issue of the Time Capsule is Wednesday, May 19. AUDITIONS: The San Benito Stage Company will hold auditions for its production of Oliver, based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and written by Lionel Bart. Auditions will be held for people 16 and older from 5 to 9 p.m. May 20 at Grace Bible Church and 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. May 22 at the YMCA; ages 8-15 from 3-7 p.m. May 21 and 22 at the YMCA. POWDER PUFF COMPETITION: Students at San Benito High School will hold their seasonal Powder Puff Competition beginning at 5:30 p.m. May 21 at Andy Hardin Field. The four classes of students will compete head-to-head and a dance will follow at 8 p.m. in Mattson Gym. Tickets cost $3 with the ASB stamp, $4 with a SBHS ID card, $5 general admission and $2 for children under 12.
