VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Sacred Heart / St. Benedict’s VBS, SonGames 2004 is a week long outdoor camp for children entering into Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) through 6th grade in the fall of 2004. BUS CLOSURE: The County Express Transit will be closed during the Hollister Idependence Rally because of street closures during the rally. There will be no red line service on July 2. General Public Dial-a-Ride will be available for these trips by calling 636-4161.

County Express will make every effort to ensure that buses are running according to schedule; however, because of increased traffic for the event, some routes may run behind schedule.

COLLEGE FOR KIDS: There is still time to register for the second session of Gavilan College-College For Kids. The session goes from July 6 to July 23, and runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Kids entering grades 4-7 get their choice of morning specialty classes in subjects like computers, math, and foreign language, plus afternoon swimming and outdoor fun. The fee is only $315.00. LIbrary Book SALE: The Friends of the Library will hold its monthly book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and July 24 behind the SBC Free Library at 470 Fifth and Monterey streets. Biker Breakfasts: The American Legion Post 69 will hold their 2nd Annual Biker Rally Pancake Breakfast July 1, 2, 3 and 4 from 6:30 – 11 a.m. It will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building on San Benito Street and the cost is $5 per person. Art museum outing: The Free Caregivers will hold a social outing to the Monterey Museum of Art at La Mirada on July 15 from ll:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Caregivers from Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties are welcome. Work Permits: Pursuant to California Labor Code Mandates, students between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age who plan to work this summer must have a “Permit to Employ and Work” on file with the employer during the term of their employment. Students must apply for these permits at the school they attend. Students under the age of 14 are only allowed to work in agriculture-related or entertainment field. Rural students may obtain work permits through their school principal. Employers without work permits for student employees face potential fines of $100 to $500. Moving Wall: The Hollister Independence Rally Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hollister Post 9242 is announcing the Moving Wall exhibit to be on display at the old Fremont School from June 30 to July 5. The memorial will be open around the clock. HIRC and the VFW are looking for volunteers to help setup the event and the manning of the memorial around the clock. Recycling Bin: The recycling bin behind the Free Lance will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and open Friday through Sunday night.

Diabetes series: Hazel Hawkins Community Health Clinic in San Juan Bautista is offering a free community education series on diabetes.
