Burtis Lanning died at his Hollister home Sunday evening. He was
born in Hollister and lived and here all of his life.
Burtis Lanning died at his Hollister home Sunday evening. He was born in Hollister and lived and here all of his life.

He was 93 years old and a member of the Elks Lodge #1436 of Hollister.

He worked for many years in the tire business for Erni Sevenman and was a partner in Hollister Tire and Battery for a few years. He also worked for Tipton Motors which is now Greenwood Chevrolet. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, motorcycle riding, playing the organ and was in a musical group for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, who died in 1987. He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Jim and Rae Lanning of Hollister and Bill and JoAnn Lanning, also of Hollister; his grandchildren Kurt Lanning of Hollister, Jayme Stewart of Hollister, Michael Lanning of Hollister, Wirt Lanning of Redding and Tracey Brooks of Paicines. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and his niece Sydney McGahan of Sutter Creek.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rev. John Amelio of Glad Tidings Church will officiate with participation by Hollister Elks Lodge #1436.

Cremation will be followed by interment at the IOOF Cemetery.

Donations are preferred to San Benito Home Health Care care of the funeral home.
