The bodies of a husband and wife who had a preexisting agreement to take their own lives if one was unable to take care of the other were discovered last week in Campbell, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the Campbell Police Department.
Around 2:29 p.m. Nov. 30, officers responded to 245 Union Ave. on a report of two subjects suffering gunshot wounds. Police arrived at the scene and found Annie Andrews, 92; and Paul Andrews, 89. Both were deceased following what authorities are deeming a murder-suicide.
Detectives determined through their own investigation that Paul and Annie had an understanding “that if one was unable to take care of the other, they would take their own lives,” the press release reads. “It appears that Annie Andrews’ health had been declining in the weeks leading up to November 30, 2013. Based upon the statements of family and neighbors, the crime scene, and the autopsy, it appears that the murder-suicide was a pre-planned event based upon the agreement between Mr. and Mrs. Andrews.”
The investigation remains active, although the Campbell Police Department does not believe anyone else besides the couple was involved in the incident, according to the news release.
