Carl J. Berta, 91, of Gilroy passed away April 5.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lee Berta; their children James C. Berta and his wife Norma of Gilroy, and John F. Berta and his wife Michelle of Prunedale; grandchildren Jim, Nicole, Debbie and Bill; great grandchildren Jefferson and Joshua; and many nieces and nephews.

Carl enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years and traveled throughout the country, actually meeting his wife while both were active in baseball, he also enjoyed bowling and golf. While raising his family he pursued his interest in the grocery business opening the Eastside Market until his retirement in 1980. Since his retirement he has enjoyed time with his family, friends, and golf.

Services will begin today, April 8, with a viewing starting at 1 pm and a Rosary at 7 pm; funeral services will be Saturday April 9 at 10 am all at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Gilroy.
