Carl Papetti, 92, longtime resident of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully after a short illness on November 24, 2007 at Saint Louise Hospital.

Carl was born January 27, 1915 in Salmon, Idaho, and was one of eight children born to Mary and Joseph Vincenzo Papetti. Carl graduated from Salmon High School in 1934 where he lettered in basketball. Carl and his brother owned the Chevy dealership in Salmon until WWII. He was married to Josephine Verbance in Dillon, Montana in 1937, and they were together until her passing in 2003. Carl was discharged from the Army in 1943 and was in the used car business in Pocatello (Main Auto Sales) until he retired in 1980. During his 40-plus years in the car business, he had an exceptional reputation for his honesty/integrity and, to the day he passed, could recall details concerning almost every car that he sold. Carl and Josephine had one child, John, who was born in 1944.

In 2003, Carl moved from Pocatello to Gilroy, California to live with his son and family. He made yearly trips with his son to Pocatello, Boise, Salmon, and Dillon to visit close family and friends. In August of this year, he moved to Valley Pines Assisted Living in Morgan Hill, where he met new friends, shared his life’s experiences, and received excellent care. Carl was very active and in very good health until the last few weeks of his life.

There will be a gathering of friends and relatives in Pocatello at Downard’s Funeral Home (3 to 5 P.M.) on Saturday, December 15, 2007. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Cancer Society.
