Carmel Grace (Alosi) Barbano was born on December 17, 1924 in Los Angeles, CA and passed away on March 27, 2009 at the Mabie Southside Nursing Center in Hollister, CA at the age of 84.
Carmel moved from Los Angeles to Morgan Hill in 1936. She worked the family orchards throughout her childhood. Carmel graduated for Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill where she received a scholarship to San Jose State College. She chose to continue working at the family orchard.
In 1948, she met and married Paul Peter Barbano. They resided in Campbell, CA until Paul’s death in 1981. Carmel met Paul at a dance and throughout their marriage, they enjoyed dancing to Big Band music,
Over the years, Carmel worked at both FMC and the Paul Masson Winery. She continued to live in Campbell before moving to the Mabie Southside Skilled Nursing Center in Hollister in 2007.
Carmel was an avid gardener, and excellent seamstress, and enjoyed going to Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe. She was a member of the Santa Clara County Chapter Model A Ford Club of America. She owned and drove a 1931 Model A Ford Coupe on numerous tours and on most days to run her errands.
Carmel is survived by he daughter Patricia Ann Jones, partner Sam Berndhart of MT; son Paul J. Barbano, wife Zondra of San Jose, CA; granddaughter Jennifer Moore, husband Christopher of Hollister, CA; brothers Peter Alosi, wife Vergie of Hollister, CA and Jospeh Alosi of Morgan Hill, CA as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carmel was proceeded in death by her parents Carmelo and Rosa (Puliafico) Alosi; sisters Angela Snider and Jospehine Togliati.
Services will be held Wednesday April 1, 2009, at the Lima Family Mortuary located at 466 North Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara, CA at 1:00 P.M. Donations to Alzheimer Foundation.
